2nd Annual Carl Sandburg College Wheelchair Basketball Event March 24

Carl Sandburg College’s second annual wheelchair basketball event will take place at 6 p.m. March 24 in John M. Lewis Gymnasium on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

The brainchild of Sandburg student Mike Martinez, who was born with a condition called spina bifida and uses a wheelchair, this event invites people to experience for themselves what it’s like to use a wheelchair for mobility.

Registration for and admission to the event is a freewill donation, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Special Olympics.

Registration is open to the public. Participation is limited to 40 individuals, and a release form must be completed prior to the event. Players will be assigned to a 10-person team, and all participants will get at least 10 minutes of playing time. Wheelchairs will be provided.
